Work in progress: the <unnamed> portrait series, a study of the boundaries of portraiture, in collaboration with design studio Hats & Tales.

We’re looking for the boundaries of what makes a portrait a portrait if you erase/cover up/delete the face. What are the classic ingredients of some of the best known portraits, and how can we play with them?

This project derived from our image collection Something white, Something new — a collection of anonymized wedding portraits we found on Marktplaats.nl (the Dutch equivalent of Ebay).
